Scope of position
Responsible for DSP firmware development for the system components, including firmware/software architecture, design, and development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include the following:
Design, develop, and document software applications in C, C++ on real-time operating systems to create DSP based power line carrier receivers
Design, develop, and document communications systems on DSP platforms. This includes design of digital filters (IIR and FIR), mixers, discriminators, etc.
Develop software/system design specifications including, functional requirements, use-case, detailed design, interface, and test plans
Prepare and analyze simulations of systems using tools such as Matlab, SystemView, spice, etc.
Assist with alpha and beta phases of projects. This includes assistance with creation of test plans, selection of test site, analysis of data, and creation of final report.
Develop and implement design verification testing processes and procedures to assure the functionality and reliability of the final design.
Contribute to design and code reviews with peers.
Contribute to software and system test efforts. This may include execution of tests and creation of test reports.
Design to industry standard interfaces such as RS-232, RS-485, Ethernet, etc.
Update job skills through seminars, classes, journals

Qualifications--Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required to successfully perform in this position.
Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or related field andover 5years of engineering experience, or master_s degree in engineering or related field and 1-3 years of engineering experience. More experience is better.
Experience in programming C, C++, and embedded real-time operating systems.
Experience developing embedded applications on various DSPs and microprocessors such as TMS320, AD218X, PIC, Z8, etc.
Experience with signal processing techniques and algorithms, DSP hardware implementations, and DSP software development tools.
Experience with industry standard protocols such as TCP/IP.
Experience with complete product development cycle.
Ability to read and interpret technical documents, procedure manuals, schematics, data books, handbooks, etc.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. An understanding of advanced mathematics, including differential and integral calculus is required.
Ability to proficiently utilize standard computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processors, basic CAD tools, web browsers, email, and Windows.
